Greetings from Santiago, Chile where we have arrived today with a UA delegation of 12 students and 4 teachers. We have been looking forward to today for months and the reality of being here is even better than we imagined. After our long (and somewhat delayed) 10 hour flight from Dallas, we were met by Ms. Raczynski, co-princpal of Colegio Santa Ursula at the Santiago airport. She arranged for us to go directly to the school where we were immediately met (perhaps "rushed" is better word) by our host students as well as members of the Colegio Santa Ursula student leadership. It was really touching to see the joyful reunions of the students who originally met in Dallas in January and are now together again. There were lots and lots of hugs and kisses as you might imagine!
Once we entered the school (which our UA girls immediately declared "beautiful"), we discovered a lovely outdoor welcome reception waiting for us in one of the school courtyards. The reception was not only beautifully prepared but it really touched us because the Chilean students went to so much trouble for us - they prepared all of the food themselves (it was delicious) and they served it to us along with a gift for our students of a traditional Chilean chocolate. We were also proud of our UA students becasue each one stood up at the reception and introduced herself in Spanish. Bien hecho!!
Tonight we are very tired but we are so happy to be with our Chilean friends. We'll have more to report tomorrow after our city tour of Santiago!
Buenas Noches!!
