On Friday, our students accompanied students from Colegio Santa Ursula to SENAME (Servicio Nacional de Menores Chile) which is a governmental institution similar to Child Protective Services in the USA. At SENAME, children who have been abandoned, mistreated or are in vulnerable situations are protected and cared for by a loving and dedicated staff.
Students from Colegio Santa Ursula go to SENAME or to the Children's Hospital next door every Wednesday and Friday. In fact, they serve these two institutions from the time that they are in third grade until they finish 11th grade. So, as you can imagine, there is a very special relationship between the Santa Ursula girls and the children of SENAME.
Our students were divided into groups and then spent the morning playing with the children, taking them to a park, feeding them and putting them down for naps. It was a beautiful experience and many of the children did not want to let go of our students and teachers. Chilean law does not permit us to post photos of the children here but that's fine since we will always carry the images of the children in our hearts.
How fun!
