So, this awesome day began with a trip to downtown Kampala to change money and to visit the local market. I wasn't there at the time but I hear that Melanie sampled some ants and a grasshopper at the market (photo coming soon) and that the ants were tastier. By the time I caught up with the group, Alexis told me "Cecilia, you brought the right people - they are fearless!" YES!! This news made me very happy as you can well imagine and it set the tone for the rest of the day. Today was Good Friday and so there were several processions throughout the city. One went right by us as we were sitting in the cafe of the Speke hotel. We were completely captivated by the sight of the people carrying the cross and of the hundreds of people walking along and behind the cross - it was really special and we were so lucky that we had a chance to experience Good Friday Africa-style! The rest of the day was no less amazing - just driving along the road is fascinating. Particularly mesmerizing are the boda-bodas, the Ugandan motorcycle taxis which can carry a shocking number of people at one time. We also visited the local Anglican cathedral as well as the gorgeous Serena Hotel this afternoon. However, the most impactful part of our day was our visit to the Sanyu Babies home - and that blog entry is coming soon!
