Getting to know more about Empower African Children
As many of you know, the organization with which we are partnering is Empower African Children and the Director of EAC here in Kampala is our very dear Ursuline Alum, Agnes Kasule. We are thrilled to be working with this fantastic organization which is doing so much in terms of deeply investing in orphans and vulnerable children so that they can one day be agents of change here in their home communities. Today we had the great privilege of meeting with the EAC staff at the EAC Offices and at the training center where the children live and train when they are not in school or when they are on holiday (like now for Easter). It was wonderful to learn more details about what it takes to run this great organization and about the people responsible for caring for every aspect of the lives of the EAC children. One highlight was sitting down at lunch and talking about the EAC school which is currently being developed and will hopefully open in 2012. We at Ursuline feel most honored to be consulted about this tremendous endeavor and each of us is hoping that our expertise will benefit the EAC school. Of course, the big highlight of the day was meeting with the EAC children at the training center, saying hello and seeing how they are doing since we were last together with some of them in Dallas. It was a very happy scene - lots of hugs and clapping. My favorite moment was when Erin was introducing herself and the children clapped for Math - YAY Math! It was so fun and we were each more than touched by the sweetness of it all.
